Mother Elephant Checks Her Sleeping Baby Is Still Breathing In Very Cute Footage That Every Parent Will Understand

Which parent hasn’t obsessed about their new born’s bedtime breathing?

Heart-warming footage has emerged of an elephant displaying ‘human-like traits’ while making sure her sleeping baby is still alive and well.

The mum first extends her trunk tenderly over her son’s chest before moving to check to see if he is breathing through its trunk.

Elephants are known to show signs of emotions such as anger, joy and grief and are among of the most intelligent animals on the earth.

This delicate moment between mother and son were filmed in Thailand.

The species is under threat across the world, largely due to poaching for ivory.

Large numbers of elephants were lost during the 20th century as they were killed for their tusks and as humans competed for resources.

Climate change is also playing a part in destroying the chances for elephant survival, as their environment will become drier and hotter.

Leslie A. Temanson, a former program director at Volunteer in Thailand with Friends for Asia, filmed the clip.

He said, “Moms are moms, no matter the species.

“This mother elephant showed me as she tenderly checked her sleeping calf, much as a human mom might do her napping baby.”

Scientists understand that elephants have a total of 300 billion neurons, which is as many as a human brain and suggests ‘convergent evolution.
